The Ministry of Education has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Sherilyn Martin, a beloved educator at Clare Hall Secondary School whom the ministry described as an "extraordinary" teacher whose influence extended well beyond the classroom.
The ministry joined the Clare Hall Secondary School community in mourning Martin, who served as Head of Business at the institution and died following a period of illness.
"Mrs. Martin was, in every sense, an extraordinary educator and an exceptional human being," the ministry said in a tribute, recognising her as an accomplished teacher, dedicated professional, and inspirational leader.
Officials highlighted her steadfast commitment to her students and to the broader mission of education. "She devoted herself wholeheartedly to the advancement of education and to the success and growth of her students," the statement read.
Martin was also remembered for the warmth and grace she brought to every interaction. "Mrs. Martin possessed a rare and genuine kindness that made all who encountered her feel acknowledged, respected, and valued," the ministry said. "She carried herself with grace and humility, earning the deep admiration of her colleagues, the affection of her students, and the respect of all who had the privilege of working alongside her."
The ministry described her passing as a profound loss — not only to her family and the Clare Hall community, but to Antigua and Barbuda's wider education sector. "The void she leaves behind is profound, yet her legacy endures in the countless young lives she shaped, the colleagues she encouraged and uplifted, and the unwavering standard of excellence she consistently embodied."
The ministry extended its condolences to Martin's family and the school community, offering prayers for strength and comfort. "May the soul of Mrs. Sherilyn Martin rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to be a source of blessing, inspiration, and strength to all whose lives she so profoundly touched."
