Two men have been arrested in connection with the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition following a routine traffic stop in the Willikies district.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda announced that officers attached to the Willikies Police Station were conducting a mobile patrol in the early hours of Saturday, April 18, when they observed a blue Honda Fit travelling along the Willikies Main Road without a front number plate. The vehicle was stopped at approximately 12:50 a.m.

A search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of both occupants, uncovered one 9mm pistol and seven matching rounds of ammunition. Both men — aged 25 and 26, from Willikies and Pares Village respectively — were arrested and taken into custody.

The firearm and ammunition were seized. Investigations remain ongoing.
