The government is preparing to launch a series of new housing developments in St Johnson's Village, Cedar Valley and Paynters, as part of a broader effort to expand access to affordable homes across Antigua and Barbuda.

According to Antigua News Room, Works and Housing Minister Maria Browne announced the plans during the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) manifesto launch at the American University of Antigua Conference Centre, outlining a pipeline of community-focused projects slated for later this year.

"A significant boost to community development will come with a new housing project scheduled for launch later this year in St Johnson's Village," Browne said, noting that the initiative will be undertaken by the Central Housing and Planning Authority.

She added that further developments are planned for Cedar Valley and Paynters, with both projects expected to be introduced before year's end. "The National Housing Authority is expected to present new housing developments in the Cedar Valley and Paynters communities later this year," Browne said.

The projects form part of a broader government push to expand housing access and address demand across multiple communities, spanning both urban and rural areas.

Browne said the developments are intended to go beyond basic construction, with a strong emphasis on building fully serviced communities. "We're building communities complete with proper roads, drainage, sidewalks and green spaces," she said. "Communities designed for safety, accessibility and inclusion."

The minister said the government's approach aims to improve living standards while supporting long-term economic stability for families. "Housing is not a privilege, it is a right. It is a foundation of dignity, a platform for opportunity and a pathway to generational wealth," Browne said.

She said the housing programme is also being expanded alongside support for vulnerable households and increased access to land ownership. "We are strengthening support for those in need, expanding repair grants… and upgrading homes for our vulnerable families," she said.

Browne framed the planned projects as a continued commitment to inclusive, community-level development. "Because under the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, no one must feel left behind," she said.

The housing developments are part of the ABLP's "Renaissance" manifesto, which centres on infrastructure, housing and economic growth ahead of the April 30 general election.
