The Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers (ABUT) has released guidance to help public sector teachers calculate their final retroactive payment for the 2018 to 2023 contract period.

The union's executive outlined specific calculation formulas based on each teacher's employment start date. For teachers employed from January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2023, the example calculation — referred to as Teacher A — yields a final retroactive payment of $4,660.00. For teachers employed from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2023, the example calculation — referred to as Teacher B — results in a final retroactive payment of $3,008.00, rounded to the nearest dollar.

The guidance is intended to help teachers verify their individual entitlements and ensure transparency in how the retroactive payments are calculated.

The ABUT executive is urging both members and non-members to report any discrepancies related to the final retroactive payment to the Accounts Department at the Ministry of Education or to the Treasury Department at [email protected].

Union President Casroy Charles reaffirmed the executive's commitment to keeping teachers informed and ensuring all eligible recipients receive their rightful entitlements in a fair and transparent manner.
