Antigua and Barbuda's Independence celebrations are set to look and feel markedly different this year, with officials promising a landmark observance. According to Antigua Observer, the announcement was made by Everton Barnes, Co-chair of the Media and Public Affairs Committee, during the first official media briefing for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026.

Barnes signaled that the 45th anniversary of Independence, falling on November 1st, 2026, will be celebrated in grand fashion, describing the planned program as 'spectacular.'

The briefing marked the first formal public update from organizers as the twin-island nation prepares to host CHOGM 2026, an event that will coincide with the milestone Independence anniversary. The convergence of both occasions appears set to elevate the scale and ambition of this year's national celebrations.
