ST. JOHN'S, Antigua and Barbuda — The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a formal warning to the public following reports of individuals removing, defacing, and destroying political flyers, posters, and billboards across communities throughout the country.
The Commissioner of Police and the Police Administration were made aware of the incidents, prompting the Force to respond swiftly. Officials stressed that such actions are unlawful and threaten the integrity of the democratic process, particularly during a period of heightened political activity.
Political materials lawfully placed by parties or their representatives are protected under the laws of Antigua and Barbuda. Any interference with them constitutes a criminal offence.
The Royal Police Force warned members of the public to desist from these activities immediately. Increased surveillance measures are being implemented in affected areas, and police are actively monitoring the situation. Anyone found removing, tampering with, or destroying campaign materials — whether identified through surveillance footage or reported by credible witnesses — will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Force also called on political leaders across all parties to encourage their supporters and affiliates to act lawfully and refrain from engaging in the destruction or removal of campaign materials.
The Royal Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment for all citizens, urging everyone to respect the rights of others regardless of political affiliation.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the nearest police station or reach the Criminal Investigations Department directly.
