ABLP candidate for St. Philip North Randy Baltimore has identified deteriorating roads in Newfield as his top priority should he win the April 30 general election, pointing to work already underway while acknowledging the depth of infrastructure challenges across the constituency.

Speaking on ABS Television's 'Know Your Candidates' programme, Baltimore named road repairs as the most pressing issue facing residents. Newfield, where aging asphalt has steadily worsened, will be his primary focus.

"The major challenges within the constituency that I will address promptly after the general elections is the infrastructure within the constituency," Baltimore said. "Newfield will be my primary focus when it comes to road infrastructure."

He noted that roadworks carried out during and after the recent by-election are part of a broader improvement effort, with contractors already deployed in areas including Newfield and Zion Hill.

Baltimore also highlighted upgrades to the road leading to Stingray City, a key tourism attraction in the constituency, describing its previous condition as "deplorable" before recent work was completed.

"That road has been in a deplorable state for many years," he said, adding that engagement with government officials resulted in the road being graded, rolled and paved ahead of the tourism season.

He credited the Ministry of Works and local contractors for the ongoing efforts, framing infrastructure upgrades as a continuous process rather than a one-time intervention. Better roads, he argued, are essential not only for residents' daily lives but also for economic activity, particularly in tourism-linked areas.

Baltimore is seeking to retain the St. Philip North seat following a decisive by-election victory last month, in which he secured roughly 70 percent of the vote.
