A truck collision with a utility pole has brought traffic to a complete standstill on Grays Farm Main Road, cutting off access to and from the Five Islands area, according to Antigua.news.
The truck reportedly lost control and struck the pole, bringing it down along with its wires across the roadway. The downed pole and cables are blocking all movement in both directions, leaving scores of vehicles stranded at the scene.
Police and the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) have responded and are currently on scene. Authorities have not yet indicated how long the road is expected to remain closed.
Clearing the debris is expected to take considerable time. Many stranded motorists have switched off their engines as they wait for crews to restore access.
