United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate Richard Lewis has sharply criticised his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) opponent ahead of the upcoming polls in St John's Rural West, dismissing campaign promises from ABLP Senator Michael Joseph and arguing that the senator bears direct responsibility for the constituency's unmet needs.

According to Antigua Observer, Lewis contended that Senator Joseph had years of direct responsibility over the constituency and failed to deliver on key commitments to residents.

With the April 30th general elections drawing near, Lewis argued that voters in the constituency deserve accountability rather than renewed promises from a candidate who, in his view, already had the opportunity to effect meaningful change.

The UPP candidate's remarks represent an escalation in the campaign rhetoric surrounding one of the more closely watched contests in the upcoming polls. Lewis's challenge centres on the senator's track record, positioning the UPP as the alternative for constituents who feel overlooked or underserved.

Senator Joseph, the ABLP's standard-bearer in St John's Rural West, has been actively campaigning ahead of the April 30th vote. The constituency is expected to be a competitive battleground as both major parties intensify their outreach efforts in the final stretch before polling day.
