Antigua and Barbuda has recorded a sharp surge in replacement voter identification card applications, with cumulative figures reaching 28,926 processed so far in April 2026, according to Antigua.news, citing an official report from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

The data reflects sustained nationwide engagement as voters prepare for the upcoming general elections, with activity recorded across all 17 constituencies.

St. George recorded one of the highest constituency totals at 2,690 applications, followed by All Saints West with 2,533 and St. Peter with 2,477. St. Peter also led in completion rate at 87 percent, indicating near saturation of eligible applicants in that area.

In the capital, St. John's City West and St. John's City East posted totals of 1,317 and 919 respectively, with completion rates in the mid-to-high 50 percent range.

St. Mary's South also stood out, posting a 63 percent completion rate — one of the highest in the country outside of St. Peter and Barbuda.

Smaller constituencies have shown particularly strong engagement. Barbuda reached 76 percent completion and St. Philip North achieved 75 percent, suggesting an aggressive push to ensure voter readiness ahead of polling day.

As reported by Antigua.news, weekly application volumes have remained high throughout the reporting period. The April totals build on carry-over balances from 2025, as well as activity recorded from January through March, reflecting a sustained and coordinated registration effort.

The surge in applications coincides with intensifying political campaigning across Antigua and Barbuda ahead of the April 30 general elections. Election officials have repeatedly urged voters to ensure their identification is current, emphasising that a valid voter ID card is required for participation in the electoral process.

With several constituencies already surpassing 70 percent completion, focus is expected to shift toward closing remaining gaps in lower-performing areas in a bid to maximise voter turnout on election day.
