The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has issued a renewed advisory urging customers to stay vigilant against an ongoing wave of phishing attempts by individuals falsely posing as APUA or inet representatives. According to Antigua News Room, customers have been contacted by phone and asked to hand over sensitive personal information, including email addresses and one-time passwords (OTPs).

APUA has moved to set the record straight, stating unequivocally that neither APUA nor inet will ever contact customers to request passwords, one-time passwords, banking information, or any other sensitive account details. The authority has confirmed that these calls are fraudulent, made by bad actors seeking unauthorized access to customer accounts.

The authority is advising all customers to take the following precautions: refrain from sharing personal, banking, or account information over the phone; never disclose one-time passwords to anyone under any circumstances; and end any such call immediately if these types of requests are made.

APUA is also calling on the public to look out for one another, with particular emphasis on protecting elderly family members and loved ones, who may be more vulnerable to these types of scams.

The authority thanked the public for their continued vigilance and cooperation in helping to combat these fraudulent activities.
