Senator Pearl Quinn-Williams, the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St John's City East, says she is confident of securing the constituency in the April 30 general election. According to Antigua News Room, she claims to have already surpassed the six-vote margin that separated the candidates in the previous poll.
Quinn-Williams levelled criticism at the current representation in the constituency, alleging that the sitting Member of Parliament has been largely absent from the community and that residents have suffered as a result of neglect.
She said constituents have repeatedly raised concerns about poor sanitation, which she identified as the most pressing issue facing the area. Blocked gutters, stagnant water, and accumulated bulk waste, she said, are contributing to unhealthy conditions in parts of the constituency.
Quinn-Williams also called into question the performance of the sitting MP in his role as Minister of Public Utilities, pointing to ongoing complaints about inconsistent water and electricity supply affecting residents across parts of the constituency.
With fewer than three weeks remaining before election day, Quinn-Williams said she is focused on maintaining a strong and visible presence on the campaign trail as she makes her case to voters.
