Malaka Parker, the United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St John's Rural North, is campaigning on a promise of visible, hands-on representation for residents she says have been neglected by their current Member of Parliament.
According to Antigua News Room, Parker described her daily canvassing as "gruelling" but said concern for constituents and a growing awareness of hardship in the area continue to drive her efforts.
A central theme of her campaign is the perceived absence of effective representation under the sitting MP. Parker said residents have repeatedly told her that their representative is "largely unseen and unfelt" in the community — a grievance she has placed at the heart of her pitch to voters.
To demonstrate her commitment to consistent engagement, Parker has announced a town hall meeting scheduled for Thursday. She described the event as part of a broader strategy for ongoing community dialogue should she win the seat.
Parker expressed confidence that the constituency is ready for a change in direction. "I feel that I'm on the cusp of change," she said.
