United Progressive Party Senator Johnathon Joseph has expressed strong confidence that the UPP will capture the St Mary's North constituency in the April 30 general election.
According to Antigua News Room, Joseph made the declaration at the party's campaign launch, stating that the constituency was "coming home" to the UPP — a claim he grounded in three years of sustained canvassing and community engagement.
"I'm pretty confident," he said. "St Mary's North is coming home under the column of the United Progressive Party."
Joseph said his campaign has centred on listening to residents and understanding their priorities. "It's their community… they know the kind of community that they want to see," he added.
He also pointed to his personal ties to the area, including growing up in Jennings, as a key factor in building trust with voters. "Their struggles are my struggles, their concerns are my concerns," Joseph said.
The UPP candidate faces Philmore Benjamin of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, who was recently selected to contest the seat following the retirement of longtime MP Sir Molwyn Joseph.
Joseph acknowledged the race would be competitive, but said sustained connections with constituents would be decisive. In the final weeks of the campaign, he said he would continue meeting voters and encouraging electoral participation.
"Exercise your democratic right… and select a representative who will listen and speak on your behalf," he said.
