Land rights remain the central issue for Barbudans heading into the April 30 general election, according to Barbuda Peoples Movement (BPM) representative Trevor Walker.
As reported by Antigua Observer, Walker made the remarks following nomination day, stating that his party has spent the past two weeks campaigning on the ground across Barbuda. He said the public response received during that period reflects a community deeply focused on the issue of land ownership and rights.
Walker indicated that the BPM's campaign messaging has been shaped by this concern, which has long been a defining political and social issue for Barbudans. Land rights in Barbuda hold particular significance, given the island's communal land ownership tradition and ongoing disputes over how that system should be governed and protected.
