Community figure Jermaine G. Kentish has publicly pledged his full support to whichever candidate emerges victorious in the St. George constituency contest, describing the upcoming electoral matchup as a historic and deeply personal occasion. According to Antigua News Room, Kentish made the declaration ahead of the April 13, 2026 general election, calling the date a momentous occasion and a reshaping of the political landscape in Antigua and Barbuda.
At the heart of Kentish's message is the significance of two homegrown candidates — one from Barnes Hill and one from New Winthorpes — facing each other as their party's standard-bearers. Kentish stressed that the contest transcends partisan lines. "This is not an Antigua Barbuda Labour Party or a United Progressive Party matter, it is not a Red or Blue issue," he wrote. "This is a matter of Winthorpes and Barnes Hill pride."
Kentish, who describes himself as a born and bred Winthorpian who once lived in Barnes Hill, drew on personal memories to underscore his deep ties to both candidates and their families. He recalled that the mother of one candidate, Dalso, fed him as a hungry child, while the mother of the other candidate, Freeland, dressed his injured toes and assisted him during asthma attacks in his youth.
"As someone who once lived in Barnes Hill, it gives me much joy and pleasure to see two of my very own colleagues, friends and neighbours vying for the honor to represent me and my community in the halls of Parliament," Kentish stated.
He extended his congratulations to both men and expressed confidence that whoever prevails will work to uplift the communities of New Winthorpes, Barnes Hill, Piggots, Carlisle, Cedar Valley Gardens, Potters, Scott's Hill, Herberts, Powells, and the broader St. George constituency.
