Prime Minister Gaston Browne has pushed back sharply against Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle's campaign pledge to eliminate import duties on personal vehicles, insisting the promise is misleading.
According to Antigua.news, Browne made the remarks on the sidelines of his nomination, speaking to Antigua.news and other media houses. He was responding to Pringle's recent pledge that a United Progressive Party (UPP) government would remove all import duties on personal vehicles if the party wins the April 30 general election.
Browne, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for St. John's City West, dismissed the opposition leader's position, telling Pringle to "spare us the dunceness." The Prime Minister insisted that agricultural inputs are already exempt from duties and taxes under the current administration.
