Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) leader Gaston Browne has declared that his administration will not be outpaced on campaign promises, signalling an openness to adopting workable policy proposals from political opponents ahead of the general election.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks during an appearance on Pointe FM, where he dismissed the possibility of rival parties gaining a competitive edge through campaign pledges. "No opposition going to out-promise my government," he stated.
Browne added that his administration is prepared to act on ideas put forward by others, provided they are practical and beneficial. "Any promise that… makes sense, my government will implement," he said.
The comments come as political parties step up campaigning ahead of polling day, with manifestos and policy proposals expected to take centre stage in the coming days.
Browne pointed to his government's existing programmes in housing, infrastructure and social support as evidence of its ability to deliver on major commitments.
He also took aim at past opposition proposals, suggesting some had been unrealistic or financially unsustainable, while insisting that his administration would prioritise feasible policies regardless of which party originated them.
The ABLP leader's remarks appear to form part of a broader electoral strategy — neutralising the opposition's campaign promises while reinforcing the government's track record as voters weigh competing platforms in the lead-up to the election.
