Attorney General Steadroy "Cutie" Benjamin has become the first Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate to be officially nominated on Nomination Day, according to Antigua News Room.

Benjamin's early nomination signals the start of what is expected to be a full slate of candidates from the ruling ABLP, as well as the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP), the Barbuda People's Movement (BPM), and several independent contenders.

Activities are taking place simultaneously across all 17 of the country's constituencies, where candidates are submitting nomination papers under the supervision of returning officers.

More nominations are expected throughout the day as party supporters gather at various centres. The process is scheduled to run until 6 p.m.

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is expected to release a full list of all successfully nominated candidates later this evening, confirming those who will contest the April 30 general election.

Nomination Day marks a critical milestone in the electoral calendar, officially setting the field ahead of what is anticipated to be a closely watched campaign period.
