The Antigua and Barbuda Public Service Association (ABPSA) has installed a new executive committee to guide the organisation over the next 12 months, with Janela Evanson elected as its new president.

According to Antigua.news, the new leadership was chosen at the association's annual general meeting held last week, marking a significant transition at the top of the public sector workers' body.

Evanson succeeds outgoing president Joan Peters, who chose not to seek another term. She brings direct institutional knowledge to the presidency, having previously served as general secretary of the association.

Evanson will be supported by a blend of returning and newly elected officers. Jannelle Wehner-Watts has been re-elected as vice-president, while Karis George steps into the role of general secretary. Sandra Benta-Richards has been elected treasurer.

The broader executive committee includes Dr. Janelle O'Mard, Dr. Desiree Antonio, Orrin Steele, Jenique Joseph, and Garolyn Cornelius-Hector.

The association also confirmed its shop stewards, who will represent workers across various workplaces. Elected to those positions are Onesha Elvin, Jeannette Mason, Sabrina Carlisle, Craig Martin, and Delma Jules-St. Agnes, joined by Verlyn Charles, who was re-elected to the role.

Kerry-Ann Mussington and Adrian Julian were confirmed as trustees of the association.

The newly installed executive is expected to lead the ABPSA's advocacy work and strengthen representation for public sector employees across Antigua and Barbuda in the year ahead.
