ST. JOHN'S, Antigua — The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has processed a total of 27,322 voter ID replacement applications to date, with St. Peter constituency leading all others at 85% completion. According to Antigua News Room, the figures come as the country prepares for an upcoming general election.
The replacement programme has accelerated sharply in recent months. March 2026 recorded 4,168 applications, while April has already reached 3,971 — a marked surge compared to the modest figures of 355 in January and 508 in February. A total of 18,320 applications were carried over from 2025.
St. Peter's 85% completion rate places it well ahead of the field. Barbuda follows at 75% and St. Philip North at 74%. St. Philip South has reached 67%, while All Saints West stands at 60%.
Several constituencies, however, remain near or below the halfway mark. St. Mary's North is the lowest at 48%, with St. John's Rural West and St. John's City East recording 50% and 53% respectively. Urban constituencies in St. John's broadly range between 50% and 56%, indicating a more gradual uptake in densely populated areas.
The Commission's weekly breakdown for April shows a strong opening to the month, with 1,077 applications recorded between April 1–4 and a further 2,894 between April 5–11. No figures have yet been published for the latter half of the month.
As reported by Antigua News Room, the data makes clear that while overall progress has accelerated, thousands of eligible voters have yet to complete the replacement process, with multiple constituencies still falling short of optimal participation levels.
The ABEC continues to urge electors to collect and update their voter identification cards ahead of the general election.
