Nigel Bascus, leader of the Missing Link–Voice of the People Party (MLVOP), is seeking to contest the St John's Rural West constituency in Antigua and Barbuda's April 30 general election. According to Antigua News Room, Bascus is positioning himself as an alternative to the country's two dominant political parties.
A fisherman by trade, Bascus says his motivation is neither financial gain nor personal status. "I'm not running for a bigger paycheck… I'm just running to make my country better," he said.
If he secures the ten nominations required to enter the race, Bascus is expected to face ABLP candidate Michael Joseph and UPP candidate Richard Lewis in what would become a three-way contest for the seat.
His campaign platform centres on agriculture and aquaculture — two sectors he argues have long been neglected despite their critical role in the nation's food security. Bascus also highlighted a training initiative he has developed aimed at equipping community members with practical skills in farming and fishing.
Bascus said he has already identified his nominators and outlined a grassroots campaign strategy built around house-to-house visits, radio appearances, and direct community outreach.
