An independent politician is preparing to challenge both major parties in the St. John's Rural West constituency as Antigua and Barbuda's general election campaign intensifies ahead of polling day on April 30.

According to Antigua Observer, Nigel Bascus, leader of the Missing Link-Voice of the People Party — known as the MLVOP — has announced his intention to contest the seat, injecting an independent voice into what has traditionally been a two-party race.

Bascus and the MLVOP are positioning themselves as an alternative to the established political parties as voters across the country prepare to head to the polls later this month.
