The Antigua and Barbuda National Congress (ABNC) has announced it will not contest the General Elections scheduled for April 30, 2026.
According to Antigua News Room, the party cited its status as a new political entity as the primary reason for the decision, stating it is focused on building its organisation, engaging with the public, and preparing to serve the people of Antigua and Barbuda with what it described as "steadfast leadership."
The ABNC also used the announcement to comment on the broader electoral process, taking aim at the timing of the vote. While acknowledging that Prime Minister Gaston Browne holds the constitutional authority to call early elections, the party stated emphatically that the process should serve the interests of the people rather than political convenience.
Despite sitting out this electoral cycle, the ABNC expressed optimism about its future role in Antiguan politics, saying it remains hopeful for the opportunity to deliver meaningful change.
