All Saints East and St Luke, long considered one of the United Progressive Party's (UPP) safest constituencies, is shaping up to be a closely contested seat in the upcoming general election.

According to Antigua News Room, Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate Lamin Newton is mounting a direct challenge against Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, who currently holds the seat.

The constituency has been under UPP control for more than 30 years. Despite that entrenched history, Newton says the political tide is turning. Speaking following the ABLP's campaign launch on Tuesday, he expressed confidence that momentum is building in his favour.

A victory for Newton would represent a significant blow to the UPP, stripping the opposition of a seat it has held for decades and unseating its own leader in the process.
