The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has released official guidelines for Nomination Day ahead of the country's 2026 General Elections, according to Antigua News Room.

Nomination Day is scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026, with proceedings running from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As reported by Antigua News Room, prospective candidates must meet several eligibility requirements. They must be at least 21 years of age, hold Antiguan and Barbudan citizenship, have resided in the country for a minimum of one year prior to the election, and be proficient in the English language.

The nomination paper must state the candidate's full name, place of residence and a personal description. The candidate's surname must appear first on the list of names.

The Returning Officer oversees the nomination process. Any individual seeking nomination must provide written consent to stand as a candidate.

The nomination paper must be subscribed by two electors — a proposer and a seconder — along with eight additional electors, all of whom must be registered in the same constituency. The signing must take place in the presence of the Returning Officer.

Candidates who satisfy the nomination paper requirements and pay the requisite EC$500 deposit will be formally eligible to contest the election. The names of all nominated candidates will subsequently be published in the media.
