United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St. Mary's South, Kelvin "Shugy" Simon, delivered a rousing address to supporters at Freedom Hall on Tuesday night, declaring his confidence in another electoral victory and dismissing any speculation surrounding his candidacy.
According to Antigua.news, Simon used the occasion to reflect on his political journey, crediting the constituents of St. Mary's South with shaping him into the politician he is today.
"I came to you as a villager, you made me a leader… I came as a political novice, you turned me into a political beast," Simon told the assembled crowd.
Simon pointed to his rapid rise within the political arena as evidence of what the constituency can achieve. He noted that he defeated a long-standing incumbent within just three months during the last general election — a feat he described as historic.
"Together, we created history… the only branch to win two elections in a single calendar year," he said, drawing loud applause from supporters.
The candidate made clear that past victories are not the ceiling for his ambitions or those of the UPP. With a general election on the horizon, Simon struck a forward-looking tone, urging supporters not to rest on prior successes.
"We are not done. We want more… we did it twice before, and we will do it again," he declared.
Simon closed his address with a firm reaffirmation of both his commitment to the constituency and the party's intention to retain the seat.
"St. Mary's South will remain blue after this coming general election," he stated.
