Prime Minister Gaston Browne has sought to reassure Antiguans and Barbudans that the current wave of road construction sweeping the twin-island nation represents a genuine long-term infrastructure commitment — not a short-term political manoeuvre ahead of elections.
According to Antigua Observer, Browne made the remarks during the Browne and Browne program on the Pointe Broadcasting Network on Saturday, where he characterised the ongoing works as unprecedented and backed by substantial financial reserves.
The Prime Minister stated that a $100 million reserve has been set aside to ensure road projects will continue well beyond the election period, pushing back against suggestions that the construction activity is timed purely for political gain.
Browne described the scale of the current road rehabilitation effort as unlike anything the country has seen before, framing it as part of a broader, sustained infrastructure overhaul for Antigua and Barbuda.
