The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association has issued a statement expressing profound sadness and shock in the wake of the devastating fire at Gambles Medical Centre in St. John's, according to Antigua News Room.
The Association declared its full support for Dr. Bernard Evan-Wong, owner of Gambles Medical Centre and former Treasurer of the Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association, as well as his Dental Associate, Dr. Sarika Mooteram. The statement also extended support to several specialist physicians whose clinics were severely impacted, including Dr. Hanybal Yazigi (Oncologist), Dr. Leon B. Stevens (Obstetrician and Gynecologist), Dr. Sharon Cordner (Internist and Rheumatologist), Dr. Edda Hadeed (Paediatrician), and Dr. Asha Robins (Surgeon).
The Association also offered its sympathies to attorneys and other professionals who were housed at the centre and suffered the loss of their offices and valuable records.
The statement described the fire as not only a personal and professional loss for those directly affected, but also a significant loss for the nation of Antigua and Barbuda — one that will be felt by the many patients and clients who depend on those services.
The Association called on the public to offer understanding, patience, and compassion as the affected professionals begin the process of rebuilding. It expressed confidence that, through resilience and determination, those impacted will overcome the tragedy and continue their vital service to the nation.
The statement was signed by Dr. Deborah Akande, DDS, FAGD, FICD, MBA, President of the Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association.
