A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck north of Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday afternoon, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre, as reported by Antigua News Room.
The tremor registered at 4:12 p.m. local time, occurring at a depth of 28 kilometres. Its epicentre was recorded at latitude 18.35 north and longitude 63.13 west.
The UWI Seismic Research Centre placed the quake approximately 198 kilometres northwest of St. John's, well offshore from the twin-island nation. It was also situated about 124 kilometres north-northwest of Basseterre and roughly 200 kilometres northwest of Brades.
No reports of the earthquake being felt in Antigua and Barbuda emerged in the immediate aftermath, and no damage or injuries have been recorded.
The Centre cautioned that the location and magnitude data were automatically generated by computer algorithms and remain preliminary, pending further review by analysts.
