ST. JOHN'S, Antigua — Demolition work has commenced on a property in Yorks as part of a government-backed housing initiative aimed at rebuilding and improving living conditions within the community. According to Antigua News Room, the work is being carried out under the HAPI programme and marks the first day of clearing activities at the site.
Officials indicate the project is intended to prepare the land for new development that will support a family and contribute to broader community renewal. A statement shared by community stakeholders framed the initiative as more than a construction effort, describing it as a drive to "rebuild hope, uplift communities, and transform lives."
The project has drawn the involvement of several senior public officials, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Senator Rawdon Turner, and Housing Minister Charles Fernandez, alongside other representatives.
Images from the site show an aging wooden structure surrounded by debris, underscoring the state of the property ahead of demolition.
