The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has released 50 acres of land in the MacPond area of All Saints under its expanded Land Empowerment Programme, marking a significant step toward broadening land ownership for citizens.
The lands, recently transferred to the Crown from the House Antigua project, are now available for purchase through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHAPA). The programme is designed to increase access to affordable land and housing for Antiguans and Barbudans, with a particular focus on low- and middle-income earners and first-time landowners.
Of the 50 acres, 35 have been designated for immediate sale as residential house plots. Plots will average approximately 6,000 square feet and are priced at $3 per square foot. Qualified applicants can purchase land over a 10-year period, with monthly payments starting as low as $175.
The remaining 15 acres are currently occupied by residents. The Government has moved to regularise land tenure for these long-standing occupants, making that portion available at a concessional rate of $1 per square foot. This provision applies specifically to individuals who have occupied the lands for more than 20 years, recognising longstanding community ties and providing security of tenure.
The initiative aligns with broader national housing and land development strategies being implemented through CHAPA, which include the construction of affordable homes and the redevelopment of lands into serviced residential communities. These efforts form part of a wider drive to expand housing access, strengthen communities, and support sustainable national development.
Interested persons are encouraged to apply through CHAPA to take advantage of the opportunity.
