The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a monthly subsidy of $50,000 to reduce the cost of air travel between the two sister islands, according to Antigua.news.

The decision follows a presentation by newly appointed Barbuda caretaker for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, Kendra Beazer, who raised concerns about sharply rising airfare prices on the route. Beazer noted that the problem has been compounded by limited transportation options, placing added financial strain on residents and dampening economic activity.

Cabinet members acknowledged that affordable and reliable inter-island travel is critical for Barbudans, particularly for access to healthcare, business, and daily life.

Beazer has been tasked with engaging relevant agencies to determine how the subsidy will be structured and implemented.

The measure forms part of broader government efforts to ensure equitable access to transportation and to address persistent concerns about the cost of travel between Antigua and Barbuda.
