The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society and its partners have launched a new digital platform designed to strengthen disaster awareness and preparedness across the Caribbean region. According to Antigua.news, the platform — called the Caribbean Risk Portal — provides island-specific guidance on preparing for hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods.
Victoria Charlton, Programs and Operations Coordinator for the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society, described the portal as a comprehensive resource hub for information on natural hazards and regional risks. The platform is accessible at Caribbean-Risks.org from any phone or computer.
"This is a portal dedicated to the Caribbean region regarding natural hazards… it offers us practical tips," Charlton said.
The portal features an interactive map that allows users to select their home territory — including Antigua and Barbuda — and access historical data on the specific risks relevant to their island. Charlton noted that the tool is also expected to foster greater cooperation between islands across the region.
With the Atlantic hurricane season approaching, Charlton stressed the urgency of active preparedness rather than passive awareness.
"A lot of us… are aware that hurricane season runs from June to November. But are we truly taking the necessary steps?" she asked, adding that the portal also addresses threats beyond hurricanes, including floods and earthquakes.
The Caribbean Risk Portal is available now at Caribbean-Risks.org.
