A 40-year-old American woman of Antiguan descent has been fined $3,000 after cannabis was discovered in her possession at VC Bird International Airport as she prepared to depart the island following a family visit.

According to Antigua Observer, Keishell Labeach — who was four months pregnant at the time — was intercepted by authorities at the airport's oversized baggage area on March 25.

Labeach, who had travelled to Antigua to visit family, was stopped before she could board her return flight. The cannabis was found during what appears to have been a routine baggage screening process at the oversized luggage section of the terminal.

The court imposed a $3,000 fine on Labeach following the discovery, as reported by Antigua Observer. Her pregnancy was noted as a factor in the circumstances surrounding the case.

The incident serves as a reminder that Antiguan authorities maintain active drug interdiction efforts at the country's main international gateway, including at baggage handling and screening points beyond standard passenger security lanes.
