Antigua and Barbuda took significant steps forward in its preparations to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) on March 26, as government officials and technical leads convened two high-level liaison committee meetings ahead of the November summit.
The meetings were held virtually, bringing together national stakeholders, members of the CHOGM Taskforce, and representatives from the Commonwealth Secretariat to assess readiness across a broad range of operational areas. CHOGM 2026 is scheduled to take place in St. John's from November 1 to 4.
The first session centred on logistical and operational planning, with discussions covering venue readiness, accreditation systems, delegate transportation, security coordination, conference materials, and inter-agency alignment. Planners also set their sights on two upcoming Advance Visits to St. John's, scheduled for April 28 to 29 and May 5 to 6, 2026, which will serve as critical benchmarks for overall preparedness.
The second session, convened as the Media Liaison Committee Meeting, focused on communications and public engagement. Participants reviewed media accreditation procedures, plans for the establishment of a dedicated Media Centre, digital platforms including the official CHOGM website and mobile application, and international outreach strategies. The committee stressed the importance of clear and consistent messaging to present Antigua and Barbuda effectively on the world stage.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs and CHOGM Taskforce Chairman E.P. Chet Greene expressed confidence in the country's readiness following the sessions.
"Today's engagements demonstrate the level of coordination, commitment, and national alignment required to deliver a successful CHOGM," Greene said. "Antigua and Barbuda is fully mobilised across all sectors, and we are working in close partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat and our international partners to ensure that every element — from logistics to media engagement — is executed to the highest standard. We look forward with confidence to welcoming the Commonwealth family to our shores in November."
The liaison committee meetings form part of a structured engagement framework designed to monitor progress, close operational gaps, and reinforce coordination among all stakeholders involved in planning and executing the summit.
Antigua and Barbuda will host Commonwealth leaders, delegates, and partners under the theme: "Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth."
