Prime Minister Gaston Browne has committed to bringing a proposal before Cabinet that would grant amnesty to Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) customers who have been disconnected due to unpaid bills. According to Antigua News Room, the pledge came after the issue was raised during Saturday's Browne and Browne Show.
The matter was put to the Prime Minister via a WhatsApp message, asking whether households cut off from electricity or water services could receive some form of relief. Browne confirmed he would place the proposal before Cabinet the following week.
No details of the proposed amnesty have been outlined.
The move could affect a significant number of households across Antigua and Barbuda. It forms part of a broader package of relief measures announced ahead of the upcoming general election, which also includes a minimum wage increase, a five percent public sector pay rise, pension adjustments, and efforts to clear outstanding retroactive payments.
