Prime Minister Gaston Browne has committed to raising concerns about unpaid seaweed workers with the relevant government ministry, after the issue was brought to his attention during a public call-in segment on his Browne and Browne radio programme.
According to Antigua News Room, a caller contacted the programme to report that individuals involved in seaweed cleanup efforts have not yet received payment for their work. The prime minister acknowledged the complaint and pledged to intervene personally.
"I will raise the issue with the ministry," Browne said.
The prime minister indicated that the government would follow up to ensure the matter is resolved. The exchange took place as the programme opened its lines to members of the public wishing to raise concerns directly with the country's leader.
