Opposition Member of Parliament for St. Mary's South, Kelvin "Shugy" Simon, has publicly condemned the housing development in Bolans, calling it "a complete disaster" and demanding an independent inspection of the project. According to Antigua News Room, Simon has raised serious concerns about drainage, safety, and overall planning at the site.
In a formal statement, Simon warned that problems were already evident before families had even received the keys to their new homes.
"The housing development in Bolans is a complete disaster," Simon said. "Before families even receive their keys, the signs are already there — poor planning, inadequate drainage, and conditions that raise serious concerns about safety and livability."
Simon stressed that residents should not be handed homes already burdened by infrastructure failures. "Families deserve homes built with care, foresight, and proper infrastructure — not problems waiting to happen," he said.
The MP also used the statement to push for greater government accountability, arguing that an electoral mandate does not exempt the administration from responsible project execution.
"A mandate is not a blank cheque. It is a responsibility," Simon said.
Simon is calling for three specific actions: an immediate independent inspection of the development, a comprehensive review of the drainage and infrastructure systems, and transparent public communication about the project's status.
"The people deserve better. Bolans deserves better," he said.
