Antigua and Barbuda is laying to rest former parliamentarian Eustace "Teco" Lake today, honouring his years of public service with an official funeral ceremony.
Lake passed away in February following a prolonged illness. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2009 and secured re-election in 2014, going on to serve in the Ministry of Works during his time in office.
His later years were marked by a serious battle with kidney disease. Lake was among the first patients to undergo a kidney transplant at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre — a milestone in the country's medical history — though his health challenges continued despite the procedure.
Following his departure from electoral politics, Lake returned to public life in an appointed capacity, taking a seat in the Senate after the 2018 general elections.
Members of Parliament gathered on Friday to pay tribute to their former colleague. Remembrances painted a picture of a man defined by his dedication to public service and his warm, approachable character. Colleagues frequently recalled his ever-present smile and his genuine ability to connect with the people he served.
