ST. JOHN'S, Antigua — Prime Minister Gaston Browne has linked this week's fatal shooting of two young men to a longstanding gang conflict, warning youth still involved in such activity that their choices lead to only two outcomes: prison or death.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne addressed the double homicide during his weekly Browne and Browne radio programme, stating that the government had previously attempted to intervene in the rivalry believed to be connected to the killings.
"We tried to intervene and get those young men to change course," Browne said. He noted that while some individuals responded positively to those efforts, others did not. "Some of them took the advice and moved on, but a few did not," he added.
The prime minister extended condolences to the families of the victims, calling the killings a tragic outcome. His remarks reflect growing concern over youth violence and gang-related activity across the country.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the double homicide as the government renews its call for at-risk youth to abandon gang life before it is too late.
