Antigua and Barbuda is mourning the loss of two young people in a recent tragedy that has shaken the nation. According to Antigua News Room, the deaths have prompted a public call for unity, justice, and stronger youth intervention from National Youth Ambassador Kristine Louisa.
"This is not just a moment for mourning. It is a moment for action," Louisa wrote in a statement. Speaking in her capacity as National Youth Ambassador and Founder and CEO of the Hopeful Hearts Foundation, she expressed both grief and a sense of urgency on behalf of the country's young people.
Louisa called on the public to stand in solidarity with the affected families, demand justice, and collectively condemn the violence that continues to endanger youth across the nation. She stressed that every young person in Antigua and Barbuda deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued within their own community.
Beyond mourning, Louisa identified concrete needs: stronger youth intervention programmes, accessible safe spaces, and consistent mentorship capable of reaching young people before they are drawn toward harmful paths. She argued that many youth are actively searching for belonging and guidance, and that it is a collective responsibility to ensure those needs are met in positive environments.
Her call extended directly to those who work with young people — youth ambassadors, mentors, community leaders, and advocates — urging them to engage in open, honest conversations about the challenges youth face today. "We must listen more carefully, engage more intentionally, and follow through with real commitment," she said.
Drawing on her experience with the Hopeful Hearts Foundation, Louisa noted that a single conversation, a reliable mentor, or a safe space can fundamentally alter the trajectory of a young person's life. She framed investment in youth as an investment in the nation's future.
"Let this moment not be one that simply passes. Let it be the moment that moves us — with compassion, with unity, and with purpose," Louisa wrote. She closed with a message of solidarity for the bereaved families and a direct reassurance to young people across Antigua and Barbuda: "Your life matters, your future matters, and you are not alone."
