Members of Parliament Richard Lewis, Sherfield Bowen, and Trevor Walker delivered heartfelt tributes in the Lower House this week, honouring retiring St. Mary's North MP Sir Molwyn Joseph for his decades of service to Antigua and Barbuda.
According to Antigua News Room, the tributes came as Sir Molwyn prepares to step down from active politics after a parliamentary career spanning more than three decades.
Lewis opened the proceedings, acknowledging Joseph's long tenure and the breadth of his work across multiple government ministries. He said Joseph's service to Antigua and Barbuda "over a very long time" deserved recognition, and pointed to the lasting influence Joseph had on those around him throughout his career.
Bowen followed, reflecting on Joseph's more than thirty years in Parliament. He noted that sustained electoral support over that period was a clear signal of the confidence his constituents had placed in him. Bowen also spoke warmly of their political exchanges, describing the "cut and thrust" of parliamentary debate between them, before wishing Joseph well in retirement.
Walker rounded out the tributes, recalling Joseph's tenure in government — including his role as Minister of Tourism — and his engagement with Barbuda on key national issues. While acknowledging the intensity of parliamentary debate, Walker described Joseph as one of the strongest debaters in the House. He added that Joseph's repeated electoral returns to Parliament reflected the enduring trust of the people of St. Mary's North.
Sir Molwyn Joseph's retirement marks the end of one of the longest and most distinguished parliamentary careers in the nation's history.
