St. John's Rural West Member of Parliament Richard Lewis has declared he is confident voters will return him to office at the next general election, citing his constituency record and continued community support.
According to Antigua News Room, Lewis made the remarks during his contribution in the Lower House, telling fellow parliamentarians he is "quite confident" he has represented his constituents well throughout his tenure.
"I stand here proud and can run on my record," Lewis said. "When votes are counted, I will be back in the House of Parliament."
The United Progressive Party MP moved to dismiss political criticism and challenges, insisting they would have no bearing on the result in his constituency. Drawing on a phrase that he said resonates with his approach to public service, Lewis declared: "Obstacles do not determine your destiny. Purpose does."
He argued that residents of St. John's Rural West recognise that sense of purpose and will "continue to repose their confidence" in him, based on his performance and commitment to their interests.
Lewis also expressed assurance that support within key communities remains firm, stating that constituents "are not changing course" and remain politically aligned with him.
"The die has been cast in St. John's Rural West," he said, closing his remarks with a firm prediction that he will return to Parliament following the election.
