A 40-year-old American woman has pleaded guilty to cannabis possession after security personnel intercepted her at VC Bird International Airport last week as she prepared to depart Antigua.
According to Antigua News Room, airport security staff at the oversized baggage area alerted police, who stopped Keishell Labeach before she could board her flight. Officers discovered multiple packages — including transparent bags, capsules, and Ziploc bags — containing a combined 163.4 grams of cannabis, valued at $1,634.
Labeach subsequently appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel and entered a guilty plea to the charge.
Her attorney, Wendel Alexander, addressed the court on her behalf, arguing that she had unintentionally left the substance in her suitcase. Alexander also noted that his client is four months pregnant, is visiting from the United States, and has family ties to Antigua.
The court upheld her $2,500 station bail with two sureties and ordered the surrender of her travel documents. Sentencing has been scheduled for Monday.
