The United States Department of State has issued a worldwide security alert advising American citizens to exercise increased caution, including those residing in or travelling to Antigua and Barbuda.
According to Antigua News Room, the alert places particular emphasis on Americans in the Middle East, though the warning extends to all U.S. citizens abroad. Americans are urged to follow security guidance issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
The Department of State warned that periodic airspace closures may cause travel disruptions. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including those located outside the Middle East, have already been targeted, officials noted.
Authorities also cautioned that groups supportive of Iran may target U.S. interests overseas, as well as locations associated with the United States and American citizens throughout the world.
