Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed shock and disbelief following the fatal shooting of two young people in the Villa Area community. According to Antigua News Room, police have not yet determined the full circumstances surrounding the deaths, though gunshots were fired that fatally injured the two teenagers while they were on the street.
The Prime Minister visited the scene, where grieving family members had gathered, offering comfort and assurances to those mourning the loss of their loved ones. Police cordoned off the crime scene as neighbours and onlookers continued to gather on the Villa Area street.
Prime Minister Browne reiterated that violence is an unacceptable means of resolving disputes, noting that firearms and a knife have been used in fatal incidents recorded this year. He urged all residents to seek peaceful solutions to disagreements, emphasising that social peace is a value held in high regard by the entire nation.
Authorities have indicated that once law enforcement establishes the circumstances surrounding the deaths, the findings will be shared with the public. The Prime Minister extended his sympathies to the families and friends of both victims, as well as to the residents of the St. John's City West Constituency, who he acknowledged share in the pain of this tragedy.
