Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle was removed from the Lower House on Friday following a heated confrontation with House Speaker Osbert Frederick, according to Antigua News Room.
The incident began after Pringle was observed reading a document during proceedings, prompting another member to raise a point of order. Pringle responded with visible agitation, accusing the Speaker of acting unfairly toward him.
The standoff developed against an already tense backdrop, with repeated exchanges between Pringle and the Speaker over conduct in the chamber. The situation reached a breaking point when Frederick ordered Pringle's removal, abruptly ending the Opposition Leader's participation in the sitting.
Speaker Frederick later clarified that the ejection was not solely the result of Pringle reading a document. His conduct, Frederick indicated, had been so egregious as to be unacceptable.
Members on both sides of the aisle looked on as Pringle was escorted from the chamber, marking one of the most contentious moments in recent parliamentary sessions.
Neither Pringle nor Frederick issued an immediate public comment following the incident.
