A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck the northeastern Caribbean in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to Antigua News Room, citing an automatic location report from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC).
The quake was recorded at 3:19 a.m. local time, with its epicentre positioned at latitude 17.69 north and longitude 62.25 west, at a depth of 42 kilometres.
The UWI SRC placed the epicentre 69 kilometres northeast of Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis; 78 kilometres northwest of St John's, Antigua and Barbuda; and 99 kilometres north of Brades, Montserrat.
The agency cautioned that the epicentre location was calculated automatically by computer algorithms and remains preliminary. The data may be subject to revision following further analysis by UWI SRC scientists.
