A 23-year-old Canadian national has been remanded in custody after drug enforcement officers at V.C. Bird International Airport seized 26 pounds of cannabis concealed in his luggage, according to Antigua.news.
Semand Vivan Shammo Aljndo arrived in Antigua on March 21 aboard an Air Canada flight from Toronto. A coordinated inspection involving narcotics officers, customs officials, and a K-9 unit flagged his suitcase for further examination, leading to the discovery of 26 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis with an estimated street value of $208,000 ECC.
Aljndo appeared before the court and was denied bail after being assessed as a flight risk. He now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking, importation, and possession with intent to distribute. His case is scheduled to return to court on May 13, 2026, for committal proceedings. He is represented by attorney Michael Archibald.
The arrest marks the second such incident this month involving a Canadian passenger on the same Toronto route. As reported by Antigua.news, Roselynee Crisostomo, 48, was detained earlier after authorities discovered more than 67 pounds of cannabis in her luggage, valued at nearly $536,000 ECC.
Crisostomo also remains in custody after being denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court on the same date as Aljndo.
